FAQ

Answer: Times are changing, and so is CERSP. Founded in Italy in 2015, the Center for Research and Social Progress was created to bring rigorous, independent research to the questions that mattered most to Europe—inequality, migration, and the environment. For a decade, CERSP worked to connect social science scholarship to real-world public concerns. That chapter has now come to a close.
In 2025, CERSP was formally concluded in its original Italian form and re-established in the United States as a new, independent organization: the Center for Explanatory Research and Scientific Prediction, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit research center. While the name, location, and legal structure have changed, the core commitment remains the same: to place serious research at the service of democratic societies.
The new CERSP expands its focus beyond Europe to address the growing challenges facing democracy worldwide. Its mission is to advance explanatory and predictive social science by integrating state-of-the-art quantitative methods with emerging tools from machine learning and artificial intelligence—always in service of clarity, accountability, and democratic resilience.
This transition marks both an ending and a beginning. We are grateful for the work accomplished under the original CERSP and look forward to what comes next.
